ASU Law’s Gold ’n Gavel raises $95,000 for students
Alumnus Les Schiefelbein honored in special tribute
Raising more than $95,000 for student scholarships, ASU Law’s 8th Gold ’n Gavel Auction and Reception gathered alumni, faculty, staff and friends from the legal community for an evening of recognition and celebration on Nov. 19.
With the first ASU Law class graduating in 1970, this year’s event was especially notable as it commemorated the college’s more than “50 Years of Global Impact” and returned after missing a year due to the pandemic. Raising money for future graduates and in thanks to those who have contributed to the success of the law school, ASU Law gave a special tribute to Les Schiefelbein as the ASU Law Alumni Service Award Recipient.
“We are finally here today to celebrate all the achievements, contributions and impact the staff, faculty and alumni of the law school have made this past half-century,” said ASU Law Co-Interim Dean Zak Kramer. “Since then, the alumni who have walked these hallowed halls have gone on to achieve great things. Our alumni comprise state supreme court justices, circuit judges, U.S. ambassadors, members of Congress, partners in large law firms, public servants, professors, and many more who have made a tremendous impact in our communities.”
Schiefelbein, CEO and founder of Schiefelbein Global and CEO of Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center, was celebrated in a tribute video with remarks from his family, ASU faculty and alumni, and other fellow renowned leaders in the international law and arbitration and dispute resolution fields.
“I am truly humbled to be the awardee this evening; it is the most prized recognition I have had in over 50 years of practice, and I am very thankful to my law school for this honor,” said Schiefelbein, who was introduced at the event by ASU Law Associate Dean and Professor Victoria Sahani.
Also part of the event, Professor Gary Stuart provided complimentary autographed copies of his book, “The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University: 1965 to 2020,” chronicling the college’s first 50+ years.
ASU Law thanks the sponsors who helped make the event possible:
- Supreme Level Sponsor: Beus Gilbert McGroder
- Appellate Level Sponsor: The Lodestar Foundation
